The 80/20 Rule of Skin

The 80/20 Rule of Skin

You’ve probably heard of the 80/20 rule when it comes to diet and fitness: 80% of results relate to your food choices and 20% can be attributed to exercise. The same applies to your skin!

Think of us as your skin’s personal trainer: we check in with you monthly to ensure everything is on track and suggest any adjustments. We'll also give you an intense workout.

However, you still need to be putting in the work outside these appointments to keep your skin healthy and strong. This is why using prescribed cosmeceutical skincare is so important!

Let’s take a detailed look into why products matter..

Skincare Benefits

Generally, we recommend clients come into the clinic for a treatment every 4-6 weeks. But you should be using your prescribed products every single day, which is why they play such a vital role. All it takes is 10 minutes a day: 5 in the AM and 5 in the PM. Consistency is key for visible results!

Your skincare will also ensure your skin is functioning optimally on a day-to-day basis. Active ingredients will help to encourage cell turnover, remove dead skin cells and ensure your skin’s barrier is maintained.

You may also be required to carry out a prescribed skincare regime a few weeks prior to commencing treatments. These products will contain the active ingredients used in our professional facial treatments, allowing us to build up your skin’s tolerance and ensure we are able to maintain its integrity. Performing treatments on inadequately prepped skin can lead to sensitivity, irritation and impaired barrier function. We can gradually increase the strength of both home care and treatments as required, to ensure your results never plateau.

Cosmeceuticals Explained

It’s important to note that not all skincare is created equal. The use of cosmeceutical-grade skincare products is essential in strengthening and improving your skin in between professional treatments.

Cosmetic products found on supermarket and pharmacy shelves do not contain potent active ingredients and therefore unable to change the skin and the way it functions. They are not chemically engineered to be able to penetrate the lipid barrier and enter the deeper layers of the epidermis and will usually just act as a bandaid, helping to conceal skin concerns.

In contrast, cosmeceuticals contain potent active ingredients with scientifically proven delivery systems that evoke change at a cellular level. Sitting between cosmetic and pharmaceutical levels, they will lead to lasting improvements in the health, functioning and appearance of your skin.

Starting Your Regime

Choosing the right products for your skin can often be a guessing game, which is why we recommend booking a consultation with an experienced therapist to discuss your needs.

While it can be tempting to purchase products online or at your local department store, many visible concerns can be misleading and incorrectly diagnosed, so you may be wasting your hard-earned money on products that aren’t right for your skin!

Our team is highly trained in analysing the skin, determining underlying concerns and prescribing skincare that will make long-term improvements for your skin. Our cosmeceutical ranges are formulated with potent active ingredients that are scientifically proven to support your unique skin health journey. Let’s work together to achieve your skin goals!
